So today I’m doing a bit of a review and first impressions of some new items that I’ve recently added to my beauty collection, as well as a couple of old faves that I re-purchased. It’s my birthday this month, so I definitely splurged a little and treated myself to some new goodies. I hope you enjoy it, and let me know which of these products you’ve tried/loved/got on your wish list in the comments below. Let’s get started!
First up is a new product, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, and I got this in the colour Taupe which says it’s meant for ‘light to dark blonde hair’, and that defines me pretty well. I’ve been using a mix of eyebrow products recently, including two different pencils and tinted gel, and I was really looking for a simpler one-step process to getting my brows done in the morning. I’ve tried ABH’s Dipbrow Pomade before and although I like the product, I find it too hard to work with for my everyday routine. So far this has been so much easier and faster to use in the mornings, and I love that it also has a spoolie on one end which will make it great for when I’m on the go.
Next is the Lancôme Effacernes Waterproof Protective Undereye Concealer. I’ve actually been using this product for years – I purchased it ages ago after I got it as a tester, and I fell in love with the formula. I actually like this one more for concealing under my eyes than my trusty Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer (though I still use Nars for the rest of my face and concealing any spots, etc.) This time around I went a few shades lighter and got the shade Light Buff, which looks to be considerably lighter than what I used previously (I think it was Neutral Beige, but I can’t really see it because it’s since rubbed off of my old tube). Anyway, that one was also a good match for my overall skin tone, but I was looking for something that would do more to brighten the area, not only conceal. So I’m really looking forward to trying this one out because I really do love this formula and think it is just the best concealer I’ve used when it comes to under my eyes.
Another product I needed to re-purchase is the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. This is my absolute favourite mascara ever! I am completely devoted. It builds length and volume without clumping or making my lashes look like spiders. You can easily achieve a false-lash look with this product in just one or two coats. I use it every day, and the only negative thing I do have to say about it is that it can tend to smudge, especially on my lower lashes. I have tried the waterproof version which came out pretty recently, but unfortunately that one just didn’t cut it for me like the original formula. So for the time being I’m sticking with it, and I’m sure this isn’t the last time you’ll hear me go on about this one!
Now back to new products, I picked up the boscia White Charcoal Mattifying MakeUp Setting Spray. I was previously using Dr. Brandt’s Pore Medic Pore Minish Mist which I liked reasonably well, but I ran out of that a while ago so was in the market for the same or a similar product. I read some reviews on the boscia spray and thought I’d try it out for myself, as a lot of people said it was similar to Dr. Brandt but some preferred this one. So we’ll see how this one works for me and whether I do like it better, but if not I’ll have no problems switching back to Dr. Brandt once I run out.
This next product is one that seems to have a lot of hype around it and that I’ve heard a lot about. It’s the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Lolita, and in all honesty I picked this up after I had firmly ruled that I was not allowed to purchase any more lip products. I seem to have this terrible habit of purchasing lipsticks and then just never wearing them because they get all over my morning coffee at work, wear off and get patchy throughout the day, dry out my lips – clearly I’m just not cut out to be an everyday lipstick wearer. That said, I am really excited to put this one to the test and see if it will last me the day given that it’s meant to be so long-wearing. I will say the colour is absolutely gorgeous and I love it, so even if I only end up reaching for it on more special occasions, I’m still happy I picked it up.
We’re not done yet; I also picked up the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick in Shell, which is relatively new to the market as well as my beauty bag. I was going back and forth on whether to actually buy this for myself for a few reasons; I love Hourglass products and am a huge fan of their Ambient Lighting Powders and Blushes, as well as the Mineral Veil Primer. But they are an expensive brand and I typically use more bb creams on a regular day-to-day basis as opposed to foundations. However I have heard really good things about it, and I would also swatch it anytime I popped into Sephora, and just the feel of the product and the finish it left on the back of my hand were enough to win me over. It’s actually my first time using a stick foundation which is already so much easier than using a liquid product, so this might even beat out my bb creams!
Last but not least, I grabbed a new fragrance which is another controversial purchase for me given I have so many different ones and really don’t need it. I picked up ck one by Calvin Klein, and to be honest I hadn’t ever tested the scent before because I could never actually find it in my Sephora, so I sort of just ordered it on a whim. It’s described as a light fragrance that’s meant to be ‘used lavishly’ (it actually advises that you ‘splash it all over your body’) and that actually sounds perfect for me. I work in an office and it’s not really encouraged to wear a lot of heavy fragrance which I totally get. So I’m hoping that with a lighter, more relaxed scent, I can wear it on a daily basis and use it lightly, so that it still hides the fact that I haven’t showered in three days without knocking out my coworkers… In all seriousness, ck one smells…
So there you have it! I can definitely say I spoiled myself a little with this haul, but it’s always fun to try something new and switch up my everyday beauty routine, especially now that summer seems to be winding down and we’re moving toward the cooler temperatures that doesn’t melt my face off. I hope you enjoyed reading and have a great rest of your week!
Until next time,
